Water solution of rivanol (0.1%) has an antiseptic and bacteriostatic effect. Rivanol belongs to the group of acridine dyes, which are powerful antiseptics and are particularly effective against bacteria, especially from the groups of streptococcus and staphylococcus. Unlike other antiseptics, its bactericidal effect is not reduced in the presence of serum proteins, but on the contrary, it increases even more.
